breakthrough Collaborative - TWIN CITIES
Breakthrough provides a six-year college access program to support highly motivated students from marginalized communities in the Twin Cities. The program starts in middle school providing academic enrichment programming during the summer. Breakthrough’s Teaching Fellows (college and high-school students who go through rigorous training) work to inspire youth to grow and reach their goals. During the school-year and throughout high school, Breakthrough students attend monthly Saturday programming and work on preparing for and applying to college.

TWIN CITIES YOUTH ROWING (TCYR)
Founded in 2008, Twin Cities Youth Rowing provides rowing opportunities for high school students throughout the Twin Cities metro area. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, TCYR seeks to make the sport of rowing accessible by offering financial aid to students in need. I’m drawn to the club’s commitment to teamwork, the rigor and structure of the program, and how it helps Minnesota youth build confidence/athleticism through competing in regattas nation-wide.

Minnesota Youth Symphonies
Through an innovative classical repertoire, Minnesota Youth Symphonies (MYS) “Enriches and inspires talented K-12 orchestral musicians by providing professional, comprehensive educational experiences, and thrills audiences with outstanding performances of orchestral repertoire.” MYS’ 2016 Spring Concert left me in awe. From the range of ages, to the assortment of pieces performed, I knew instantly that I wanted to support MYS’ mission and ethos.

Circus Juventas
As the nation’s largest youth circus performing arts organization, Circus Juventas provides “Innovating programming, world-class training and professional-level performances in its state-of-the-art circus center.” Circus Juventas aims to build self-confidence through “An environment that encourages leadership and life skills, teamwork, athleticism, artistry…and community service.” With a scholarship fund to help in-need families afford classes, College By Design appreciates Circus Juventas’ inclusivity of the greater Twin Cities community and its commitment to youth arts.
